I hereby share with you a brief conversation with the owner, Gennaro Santillo.

What is menswear to you?
Bespoke menswear to us is like a gentleman's business card. Our customers know that our garments have a story, made of passion and craftmanship. Our shirts are meant to express the customer's personality.
Cos'è l'abbigliamento per lei?
Per noi l'abbigliamento, ma sopratutto la sartoria, sono il biglietto da visita della nostra personalità. Quando il cliente entra per la prima volta da noi in sartoria, sa che ogni nostro capo racchiude una storia, fatta di passione e manualità, un capo unico ed appositamente creato per esprimere la sua personalità.
What's the history of Santillo 1970?
Our company was founded in 1970, in Catanzaro, by my mother Angela. Santillo 1970 is a family-run business: in addition to my mother, still firmly leading the company, there is my father, my sister Annaluce, my brother Saverio - who is a skilled cutter - and me; moreover, there are two embroiderers and three cutters and pattern makers. Today, with my two young sons, Mattia and Luca, it's the third generation.
Qual è la storia della Santillo?
L'azienda nasce a Catazaro come camiceria su misura nel lontano 1970, per volontà di mia madre Angela. La Santillo 1970 è una sartoria a conduzione familiare. Oltre a mia madre, ancora saldamente alla guida dell'atalier, l'azienda è composta da mio padre, mia sorella Annaluce, mio Fratello Saverio, abile tagliatore, e me; collaborano con noi due ricamatrici e tre tagliatori e modellisti. Oggi con i miei figli Mattia e Luca, ancora piccoli, siamo alla terza generazione.
What makes your products different?
After 43 years, our workshop is still as it was in 1970. Our shirts and suits are completely hand-made, both for bespoke and ready-to-wear products. We stand out for our fit and high-end fabrics; as for the hand-made collars, we still use the same canvas we were using 50 years ago, observing the parameters of the high Italian craftmanship, which is our creed.
Cosa distingue il vostro prodotto?
Dopo 43 anni di attività, tutto in bottega è rimasto come nel lontano 1970. Sia la nostra camicia che il nostro abito sono interamente tagliati e cuciti a mano, sia per i prodotti su misura che per le camicie e gli abiti in taglia. Quello che ci distingue è la vestibilità, i tessuti esclusivi, i colli delle camicie non termoadesivati; per i colli utilizziamo la tela che si usava 50 anni fa, insomma rispettiamo in tutto i canoni tradizionali dell'alta sartoria italiana, senza nessun compromesso; questo è il nostro credo.
Any projects for the future?
In October 2012 we opened up a showroom in Milan, keeping the tailor's shop in Catanzaro, our homeland. With our retail network, we supply several shops around the world and, furthermore, as of this year, we lauched "Meet Santillo", an "at-home" tailoring service, available on our website. I personally meet the custoemrs, guiding them in the choice of their perfect suit or shirt.
Progetti per il futuro?
Nell'ottobre 2012 abbiamo aperto uno showroom a Milano, mantenendo la nostra sartoria a Catanzaro, terra d'origine, alla quale siamo particolarmente legati. Con la nostra rete vendita in Italia e all'Estero, serviamo diversi negozi sparsi nel Mondo. In più da quest'anno Santillo 1970 ha avviato il servizio "INCONTRA SANTILLO" consultabile sul nostro sito web, un servizio di sartoria a domicilio. Mi reco personalmente dai clienti in tutto il mondo su appuntamento, guidandoli, attraverso un percorso che li porterà a possedere uno o più capi unici con una storia da raccontare.
