How would you describe your own style? As written on Leon magazine, on which I was also featured, my style is “neoclassic”, in other words, classic with a contemporary take.
Come descriverebbe il suo stile? Il mio stile, per dirla con le parole del Magazine giapponese Leon che ha pubblicato delle mie foto, è “neoclassico”, ovvero un classico rivisitato in chiave moderna.
What is your earliest memory related to menswear and style? Definitely my first memory dates back to my childhood. As a kid, I used to spend entire days with my grandfather, in his tailor’s shop in Reggio Calabria.
Qual è il suo primo ricordo legato all'abbigliamento da uomo e allo stile? Certamente i miei primi ricordi relativi all’abbigliamento da uomo risalgono alla mia infanzia. Da bambino, infatti, trascorrevo intere giornate con mio nonno, che svolgeva il mestiere di sarto a Reggio Calabria.
If you had to name a person that influenced on your style, who would that be? L’Avvocato Agnelli, of course, Ralph Lauren and Steve McQueen represent timeless icons for menswear. I get inspirations from them, trying to reinterpret their style, coherently with my personality.
Se dovesse indicare il nome di una persona che ha influenzato il Suo stile, chi sarebbe? L’Avvocato Agnelli, Ralph Lauren e Steve McQueen rappresentano icone intramontabili per l’abbigliamento da uomo. Da essi prendo spunto, cercando di interpretare il loro stile in maniera coerente con la mia personalità.
Your style tip for a man who wants to be well-dressed? Always choose a suit made in a tailor’s shop and not simply “sartorial”. Lately, the word “sartorial” has been misused: some companies start from the truetailoring, then they move to the off-the-peg production and they simply adjust a ready-to-wear garment to the customer’s needs; this is a completely different matter. Finally, I believe that true elegance consists in passing unnoticed: never let your suit overwhelm your personality.
Che consiglio darebbe ad un uomo che desidera vestire bene? Scegliere sempre un abito fatto in sartoria e non semplicemente “sartoriale”. Ultimamente c’è un abuso del termine “sartoriale”: molte aziende partono dalla sartoria, per poi spostarsi sulla lavorazione del preconfezionato, per adeguarlo ai bisogni del cliente. Questo tipo di lavorazione è cosa ben diversa rispetto al processo di realizzazione di un capo interamente a mano. Infine, ritengo che la vera eleganza consista nel passare inosservato; mai mettere l’abito “davanti” alla propria personalità.
Any particular request from a customer? I made a custom black coat for a customer coming from Kazakistan. It featured astrakhan collar and Hermes foulard as lining. In another occasion, starting from the coat of a tenor as a sample, I realized a single-breasted coat in cipria hue, with astrakhan collar.
Qualche richiesta particolare di un Suo cliente? Su ordinazione di un cliente kazako ho realizzato un cappotto nero con collo in astrakan e fodera interna fatta di un foulard di Hermés. Per un altro cliente invece, ho realizzato, sul campione del cappotto di un tenore, un monopetto color cipria con collo in astrakan grigio.
